Jewish Memorial Centre | Synagogue - Vila Cova à Coelheira

Memories of a hidden identity.

The building where the Jewish Memorial Centre is of the most significant ones in the village. Known as the synagogue amongst the population, there is no documentary evidence that it was a space of worship or prayer of the Jewish community.

The Centre values an identity that has been hidden for centuries. The exhibition focuses on the persecution launched by the Inquisition.

After this reconciliation with the memory of the community through the enhancement of the memory of the persecution, now efforts are being made to collect documentation on the experience and on the Jew families in Vila Cova à Coelheira.
