Journeying on the Central Portuguese Way of Saint James - Alentejo and Ribatejo is a promise of adventure, of unexpected discoveries, of a history preserved in people’s memories, a story that unfurls at every stop.

Journeying on the Way is to relive that history in the traces that the passing of time failed to erase, it is making the traveller a witness to a narrative revealed in its tangible and intangible heritage, in its lands, towns and curiosities, its cuisine, peoples and customs, those that have gone and those that continue to be, and who by taking part are unable to resist the enchantments revealed along the way.

The Central Portuguese Way of Saint James - Alentejo and Ribatejo has a total of 435 km, composed by 19 stages and an average of approximately 25 km per day, joining to the south with the route from Faro. The Way of Saint James then enters the Alentejo region, crossing the Vascão river to Almodôvar and in the north, between Golegã and Tomar, joining the Central Portuguese Way of Saint James, in Alentejo and Ribatejo, to the Central Portuguese Way of Saint James in the center region of the country.

The Way of Saint James crosses 16 municipalities of the South and Central Alentejo, the Leziria do Tejo and Ribatejo, drawing a geographical corridor of passage, based on memory, traces and historical and cultural heritage associated with the iconography of Santiago Apostle, Warrior and Pilgrim.

More than a journey, it is to experience landscapes which, though different, share the fact of being unique, reverberating like echoes in our memory. To experience the Central Portuguese Way of Saint James - Alentejo and Ribatejo is more than a journey, it is an experience like no other, which marks us, and which we treasure. One we will want to repeat.
