The ninth stage in Porto and Northern Portugal. This stage connects two places of great historical importance on the Central Way: São Pedro de Rates and Barcelos. The former, named after the first Archbishop of Braga, is said to have been a Jewish convert by the apostle Saint James, and it continues through the Pedra Furada until reaching Barcelos, the city of the Rooster, known for the legend of the pilgrim who was wrongly accused of a crime. This story gave rise to the Rooster that now adorns tables and decorates homes. Roasted Rooster is a must-try delicacy for those on the Camino. A route covering 16,352 meters, with medium to low difficulty and an elevation gain of only 146 meters.
